"If I can help just one person to have hope,
I will not have lived in vain."
What motivated the creation of AJA was the need to address an urgent issue among the most vulnerable population in the areas surrounding the port of Veracruz. These families have patients in the Regional Hospital of High Specialty, which daily receives children from the entire state of Veracruz, Puebla, and Oaxaca in the pediatric ward for medical and hospital care for severe illnesses and, at times, very lengthy treatments.
These children come from very low-income families, and previously, the children and their parents would sleep on the hospital stairs, at the bus terminal, and in the gardens along the median strip. This is why «Amigos de Jaime en Acción» was established, commonly known as AJA, which in 2008, supported by the students of the first generation of IPADE, was legally constituted and obtained authorization to issue tax-deductible receipts.
In 2009, a house was rented to serve as a shelter, and in 2010, the house was purchased for the shelter. Renovations began in December of the same year and were completed in March 2011, restoring services. In 2012, AJA was chosen as a beneficiary of Movimiento Azteca, allowing for the expansion of all facilities, doubling their capacity to meet the demand.
